Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Animedex mobile application (package name: com.anime.myapp, the "App"), operated by Madalin Simion ("we", "our", or "us"), based in Romania. By creating an account or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. The Service

Animedex is a free application for discovering, tracking, and rating anime. It lets you search a catalogue of anime titles, maintain a personal library (Watching, Completed, Plan to Watch, Dropped), rate titles, and receive personalised recommendations.

The App is offered free of charge and is supported in part by affiliate links (see Section 7). We do not sell paid subscriptions or in-app purchases at this time.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. The App is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly provide the service to them (see also our Privacy Policy).

3. Your Account

• You must provide accurate information when registering (email address).
• You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for all activity under your account.
• Notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.
• You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account. Deletion is permanent.

4. Acceptable Use

When using the App, you agree NOT to:

• Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms;
• Upload profile pictures or usernames that are unlawful, hateful, sexually explicit, or infringe another person's rights;
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems, other users' accounts, or our API;
• Scrape, crawl, or bulk-extract data from the App or its API without written permission;
• Interfere with or disrupt the operation of the App (e.g., flooding, denial of service, reverse engineering except as permitted by law);
• Impersonate any person or misrepresent your affiliation with anyone.

5. User Content

You retain ownership of the content you submit (username, profile picture, ratings). By submitting it, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, and display that content solely for the purpose of operating the App.

Aggregated, anonymised rating data (e.g., overall like percentages) remains part of the service even after account deletion, as described in the Privacy Policy. We may remove content that violates Section 4 without prior notice.

6. Intellectual Property

The App, including its design, code, logo, and branding, is owned by us and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. Anime titles, descriptions, cover art, and related metadata belong to their respective rights holders and are displayed for informational purposes. Animedex is an independent app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any anime studio, publisher, or streaming service.

7. Third-Party Links & Amazon Affiliate Disclosure

The App contains links to third-party websites and services (e.g., Amazon, MyAnimeList, AniList, streaming platforms). We are not responsible for the content, terms, or privacy practices of those third parties. Purchases you make on third-party sites are governed solely by those sites' terms.

8. Privacy

Our processing of your personal data is described in the Animedex Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms by reference.

9. Disclaimers

The App is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the extent permitted by law. We do not guarantee that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that catalogue information (episode counts, air dates, descriptions) is accurate or complete. Nothing in these Terms limits your statutory rights as a consumer under EU or Romanian law.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or loss of data, arising from your use of the App. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for gross negligence, wilful misconduct, death or personal injury, or any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law. Consumers in the EU retain all mandatory statutory protections.

11. Termination

You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these Terms (in particular Section 4), giving prior notice where reasonably practicable. We may also discontinue the App or parts of it; where feasible, we will give reasonable advance notice.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above, and for material changes we will notify you via an in-app notice or email at least 14 days before they take effect. If you continue using the App after the effective date, the updated Terms apply. If you do not agree, you may stop using the App and delete your account.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Romania and applicable European Union law. If you are a consumer residing in the EU, you also benefit from the mandatory consumer protection provisions of the law of your country of residence, and you may bring proceedings before the courts of that country.
